The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that an upper air cyclonic circulation is likely to form around May 21 over the east-central Arabian Sea off the Karnataka coast.
A low-pressure system is expected to develop in the region around May 22, and subsequently move northward whilst gaining strength, according to IMD.
The Bengaluru Regional Meteorological Centre has alerted coastal Karnataka about extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning accompanied by strong surface winds through May 21, followed by very heavy to heavy rainfall until May 26.
