Though Poonam Kaur is originally from Punjab, she built most of her acting career in Telugu cinema and continues to live in Hyderabad even after film offers slowed down.
Over the years, she says her name was repeatedly dragged into political controversies. According to her, certain political groups deliberately linked her to an actor-turned-politician to serve their own agendas.
In a recent interview, Poonam made disturbing allegations. She claimed that people from Kadapa once pressured her to hold a press meet and speak against a particular actor. Initially, they allegedly tried to bribe her with money. When that failed, they offered political positions. After she rejected both, she says they threatened to leak her nude photos and videos. Poonam revealed that she never approached the police and shared this trauma only with her family, choosing to suffer in silence.
She also spoke about the impact of statements made by Posani Krishna Murali, saying a press conference held by him destroyed her personal life. At that time, she was planning to get married, but the relationship collapsed after the controversy. She added that the stress was so intense that her mother suffered a heart attack, and her life changed permanently after that episode.
Poonam admitted that controversies overshadowed her film career. She confirmed filing a complaint against Trivikram Srinivas with the Movie Artists Association, alleging that he ruined her life. However, the complaint was not accepted. Since then, she has often voiced her frustrations on social media, frequently tagging Trivikram and Pawan Kalyan.
For the first time, she also addressed rumors linking her to Rahul Gandhi. She clarified that she met him only in connection with her handloom business and briefly walked with him, after which media outlets falsely spread rumors of an affair and marriage. She sarcastically said reports even claimed she had secret children and abortions, all of which she strongly denied.
Poonam concluded by saying that if she truly had political backing, her career would have been great. She believes women without political power are easy targets for gossip and character assassination.
