Let's see about WiFi here.

In today's digital era, WiFi is present in every home, office, school and hotel. You may be discussing WiFi among your friends or at various places but you may not know its full form and what it is. Many times lack of information forces people to compromise their security. Questions related to WiFi are asked even in interviews. Therefore, you should have complete information about it. Let us know about WiFi in detail.

What is the full form of WiFi?

The full form of WiFi is Wireless Fidelity. It is a wireless networking technology through which you can connect the Internet to your mobile, laptop, TV and other devices without wires. The term WiFi was popularized in 1999 by an organization called Wi-Fi Alliance, so that a common name could be given to wireless devices working on the IEEE 802.11 standard.

What do you have to do?

Many people share their home or office Wi-Fi password with neighbors, friends or even strangers. But doing this can become a big cyber threat for you:

  • Threat of network hacking - People who connect with the password can access your device.
  • Data Theft - Your email, banking and personal files can be accessed.
  • Legal Problem: If someone else does any illegal work using your network then the responsibility will be yours.
  • Slow speed - Internet speed decreases due to more devices being connected.

How to make WiFi secure?

If you use WiFi then you can secure your network by following these 5 tips-

  • Use a strong password - eg: 12+ characters, containing numbers, special symbols and capital letters.
  • Hide the network name (SSID) - This will prevent your WiFi from being visible to outsiders.
  • Enable MAC address filtering - only selected devices can connect.
  • Create a separate guest network - connect friends to a separate WiFi.
